An auction in Irving celebrates iconic moments in sports this weekend. Bidding has started in the "Winter Platinum Night Sports Auction."

The auction includes several items Texas sports fans would remember. A game-worn helmet from Ricky Williams' Heisman season at the University of Texas is expected to sell for at least $20,000; a Luka Doncic rookie card is expected to sell for at least $3,000.

"The Luka is worth more than it was a month ago because he's got a whole new, massive fan base," says Heritage Director of Sports Auctions Chris Ivy.

Also up for auction are several outfits worn by "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Trunks and clothes worn by members of the Von Erich family during professional wrestling events are also available.

"That's more of a local flavor," Ivy says. "We've got material from several of the Von Erichs, some of their wrestling hall of fame plaques and ring-worn robes."

A jersey worn by Patrick Mahomes in 2020 is expected to sell for $300,000 and had a bid for $140,000 Tuesday afternoon.

"This one's incredible because it's got so much game use," Ivy says. "You can see the green grass stains all over the back. The interesting thing is Mahomes was never sacked in this game. This was all from scrambling, sliding."

A New England Patriots' jersey worn and signed by Tom Brady is expected to sell for $250,000.

From baseball, a jersey worn by Mickey Mantle during the 1957 season and a full uniform worn by Roger Maris during the 1961 season are also up for bid. Ivy says the uniform has been photo-matched and was worn when Maris hit seven of his 61 home runs.

"It's a very historic item. It's all original, the 'NY' on the front, the number 9 on the back, the Maris nametag on the back," he says.

For the Mantle jersey, Ivy says the jersey was sent to a minor league affiliate after that season and stripped of the "NY" logo. Ivy says the seven on the back is original, and the rest of the uniform was restored after the player returned the jersey. He says the jersey was photo-matched to confirm Mantle wore it.

"That's why there are so few of these jerseys in the secondary market," Ivy says. "A lot of them are sent down to the minors, a lot of them are just worn in spring training or until they fall apart. The equipment manager just deems them to be not of use anymore and just tosses them out."

A Babe Ruth rookie card is expected to sell for $2.5 million.

Bidding in the Winter Platinum Sports Night Auction is underway now. The auction itself is scheduled this Saturday and Sunday.
