While thousands of cheerleaders and their families created a stampede Saturday as they fled what they erroneously thought was gunfire, an actual gun was fired during a North Texas volleyball tournament on the same day.

A man accidentally shot himself at a volleyball tournament in Farmers Branch, Texas, on Saturday. The incident occurred at the RYSE Energy StarCenter Multisport gym during the NTR volleyball tournament.

According to the Farmers Branch Police Department, the man had a gun in his back pocket when it accidentally discharged. The loud noise caused a brief moment of panic among the spectators, but no one else was injured. A referee at the tournament quickly called 911, and the man drove himself to a local hospital for treatment.

Witnesses confirmed that the discharge was accidental, and the tournament continued without further incident. The Farmers Branch Police Department is investigating the incident to ensure all safety protocols were followed.

Stay tuned for further updates as the story develops.
