A man wanted in connection to a deadly hit-and-run in Arlington last year has been arrested in Victoria County, police say.
Joel Tambriz is being held in the Victoria County Jail and is awaiting extradition to North Texas, where Arlington police plan to charge him in the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed in a central Arlington crosswalk.
The incident occurred last year when the victim was fatally struck by a vehicle. The driver did not slow down or stop to render aid, police said. Officers later discovered the abandoned vehicle not far from the scene. The car was registered to Tambriz, and investigators also found his mobile phone and other personal documents inside.
According to detectives, digital evidence, including mobile phone records, placed Tambriz at the scene at the time of the crash. After months of searching, authorities located him in Victoria County, where he remains in custody.
The Arlington Police Department is working to bring Tambriz back to face charges related to the deadly hit-and-run.
