One of the more unusual cases of animal cruelty has landed one man in jail in Hunt County.
It was a routine traffic stop in Caddo Mills on Saturday, but when officers opened the trunk of the man's Honda Civic, they found five sheep he recently purchased.
Madeline Yeaman Arnold with SPCA Texas says one of the sheep died from the excessive heat, but animal handlers were able to save the other four who were treated for heat exhaustion and are all reportedly in a good condition.
They've since been transported to an animal recovery center in McKinney.
The man has been booked into Hunt County Detention Center and charged with a state jail felony of cruelty to livestock animals.
