The man who was in critical condition after getting shot in a gunfight with Garland police Monday evening has died and police have revealed his identity.

Police reports say officers attempted to pull the man, now identified as 32-year-old Adrian Castillo of Garland, over for a traffic stop but he hit the gas, leading police on a brief chase until he pulled into Glenhaven Drive, a cul-de-sac near Jupiter and Forest Lane.

When trapped, Castillo stopped and hopped out of his car, pulled a pistol and started shooting at the officers behind him.

Officers returned fire on him and struck Castillo. It's not clear how many times he was shot but he was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Detectives say this is still an ongoing investigation. They did learn Castillo had a bond forfeiture warrant for Indecency with a Child.
