One man is in the hospital after he was rescued by Dallas fire crews from the Jackson Branch of White Rock Creek early Wednesday morning, officials say.

The man was pulled from the water near the 9300 block of Whistle Stop Place in Lake Highlands at about 5:36 a.m. Wednesday, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

When crews arrived, they could hear a man calling for help at the bottom of an embankment of at least 50 feet, officials said. First responders made their way to the man, placed him on a backboard, and raised him to safety.

Officials said the man suffered lower body injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening. He was transported to an area hospital.
