A man tries running from the police and pays the ultimate price.
Fort Worth Police were notified of a man trying to break into a medical facility on Oakland Blvd. Friday morning. They found him trying to break into a nearby business.
"They attempted to talk to him," says Ofc. Daniel Segura. "However, the subject decided to take off running."
And he ran straight towards I-30.
"Even though several other officers drove down the embankment to try to stop the subject from running into oncoming traffic and the freeway, the subject continued running towards the freeway," says Ofc. Segura.
The man crossed the service road at Bridge St., went down the embankment, and darted into oncoming traffic. He was hit by a pickup truck.
"The driver of that pickup remained on scene and actually attempted to provide aid to the victim," Segura says; "however, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene."
The pickup driver was traumatized by the whole situation.
"He was heading off to work early in the morning when all of the sudden, he hit something, not realizing it was a person," says Segura. "He stopped immediately and actually called 911."
The driver will not be facing any charges and the suspect's name has not yet been released
