A man is alive today because of fast work by some White Settlement police officers.
Saturday, a 911 call sent White Settlement police and fire to the scene where a car had slammed head-first into a telephone pole, igniting an engine fire with flames eight to ten feet high.
The first officers on-scene found a passenger apparently unconscious in the front seat. They teamed up to pull him safely away from the growing flames.
With the fire already climbing the wooden telephone pole, one officer ran to his squad car and grabbed a fire extinguishe, keeping the fire at bay until the Fire Department arrived and took over.
The rescued passenger and the driver, who got out on her own power, were both taken to the hospital to get checked out. Their conditions are believed to be non-life threatening.
