A Collin County man has been sentenced for shooting two Sachse police officers.
A jury sentenced 27-year-old Josiah Perez to 30 years in prison for opening fire on the two officers In September of last year.
The shooting happened outside of an urgent care medical center off Highway 78 in Sachse. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis says Perez crept up from behind the officers with a sawed-off shotgun and opened fire.
The two police officers were sitting in a squad car and filling out police reports for another incident. Both officers were hit by the point-blank blast but survived. One of the officers managed to return fire and wounded Perez.
Perez had prior run-ins with police and Willis says he claimed he wanted to commit suicide by cop. But the DA counters that someone intent on getting into a fatal gunfight doesn't sneak up in the middle of the night.
