Federal law enforcement officials are searching for a 32-year-old they say was involved in a coordinated attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado last week.

The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking Benjamin Hanil Song, 32, in connection with the attack on July 4. He's charged with three counts of attempted murder of federal agents and three counts of discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.

Song purchased four of the weapons associated with the attack, officials said. They found two AR-style rifles at the scene that had been purchased by Song. Another rifle purchased by Song was found in a van being driven by another suspect. Another suspect was carrying a pistol that records show Song had purchased in October of 2024.

Investigators said location data from Song's cell phone put him near the Prairieland Detention Center on July 4 and July 5.

"Though Song escaped the scene by hiding overnight, he will be relentlessly pursued until he is in custody," Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson said.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to Song's arrest and conviction. It advised people not to approach him, and said he should be considered armed and dangerous. The FBI is asking anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip through its web site.
