MEXIA, TX (1080 KRLD)- A DPS trooper shot near Mexia last week is expected to be taken off life support once doctors can remove his organs for donation.
A statement from the Department of Public Safety says: "After extensive life-saving efforts conducted by the Baylor Scott and White medical professionals, it has been determined that Trooper Chad Walker no longer displays signs of viable brain activity and he remains on life-support until he can share the gift of life as an organ donor.
This final sacrifice embodies Trooper Walker's actions throughout his life and service as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper.
The Walker family is grateful for the continued support and prayers as they remain at Chad's side."
Friday, Walker was shot in the head and body after he pulled in behind a car he believed was stalled.
He intended to help the driver but suddenly DeArthur Pinson got out of his car and opened fire on Walker.
Pinson ran for it but was surrounded in a home near Mexia. He killed himself as police closed in.
