Memorial Day Weekend is the latest tax-free shopping weekend in Texas.
The list of applicable items includes everything from major appliances to bathroom fixtures to certain water-efficient plants.
Texas Comptroller's Office spokesman Kevin Lyons said the event runs from 12:01 a.m. Sat., May 29, through 11:59 p.m. on Mon., May 31.
The list of qualifying "Energy Star" items that are temporarily tax-free includes:
Air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less
Refrigerators prices at $2,000 or less
Dishwashers
Clothes washers
Ceiling fans
Programmable thermostats
In addition, Lyons said qualifying home products include faucets, toilets and showerheads. As for plants, those must carry the EPA "WaterSense" tag to get the tax break. Even soaker hoses and mulch are included.
Consumers should know that delivery, handling, shipping and transportation charges are included in the total sales price. If it exceeds the limit, tax will be charged on the entire purchase.
