Many employees in the Dallas ISD are most likely going to see a boost in their pay.

Trustees are expected to vote on a $1.9 billion budget on Thursday, which would increase starting teacher salaries to $60,000 and $15 an hour for aides, custodians, and other hourly workers.

Rena Honea with the Alliance/AFT teachers union said it's time the district rewards its staff.

"We have many teachers who want to live in Dallas, but can't afford to. The housing prices and the rents are outrageous," Honea said.

The district is struggling to fill many open teacher positions and Honea believes the higher salaries will help.

The hourly rate hike will affect around 7,200 employees.

Under the proposed budget, teachers eligible for Teacher Excellence Initiative scores would see their average base salary increase by around 6%.
