MedStar officials concerned over current COVID-19 trends

While COVID-19 case numbers in North Texas have fallen significantly in recent weeks, officials with MedStar ambulance service in Fort Worth have seen a plateau in patients likely to have the coronavirus.

MedStar's Matt Zavadsky said they were seeing 110-120 such patients a day two months ago.  While that number is down to about 80 per day, Zavadsky said it has not continued to fall.  That, he said, could be an indicator of a potential uptick in cases.

Meanwhile, this is National Safe Place Week. Zavadsky said many do not realize MedStar ambulances are officially designated as "safe places," where distressed parents of a child 60 days and younger can legally give up their baby with no questions asked.

Since the "Baby Moses" law took effect in 1999, more than 100 children in Texas have been safely turned over to join permanent homes. MedStar crews have been involved in at least three of those cases.
