A high school teacher in Mesquite is behind bars, charged with possession of child pornography.
Terrell Police said detectives acted on a tip received by the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children in October, and it led them to the apartment of John Waters, 25.
Deputies executed a search warrant at his apartment in December and seized all electronic storage devices.
A forensic search of the seized devices turned up the child porn.
Waters is a U.S. history teacher and assistant football coach at Horn High School in the Mesquite ISD.
The school district sent a letter home to parents, saying it is unaware of any prior concerns or allegations of inappropriate behavior involving Waters, and that police told them that they do not believe his arrest involved the district or any of its students.
The district said it immediately placed Waters on administrative leave upon learning of his arrest.
Waters was arrested Tuesday and is in the Kaufman County Jail on $100,000 bond.
