Mesquite (1080 KRLD) - Officers were dispatched to the Audubon Park Apartments on Northwest Drive following a 911 hang-up call at around 7:45 Tuesday morning. Dispatchers heard screaming and sounds of a struggle in the background.
Two officers, a man and a woman, responded to the apartment complex. A confrontation between the officers and a male suspect ensued leading to the officers shooting the man. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A second ambulance was requested for the assault victim, but she refused to go to the hospital.
Police say Mesquite officers had been called to deal with the couple in the past. Reports suggest the victim suffered from mental illnesses.
The two officers involved have been with the department for over 20 years.
