A Midlothian man with a history of domestic violence gets slammed with a prison term that's often reserved for convicted murderers.
Court records show 42-year-old Richard Rodriguez pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault with family violence, impeding breathing, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Rodriguez has a history of violence. Prosecutors say he spent years abusing his former girlfriend by beating, strangling, and threatening her with guns and knives. She was so scared of him that she had cameras installed around her house.
Before that, he was convicted of burglarizing a home and assaulting a police officer.
