The challenge after getting millions in federal funding for FIFA World Cup security is getting the money to where it is needed.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments has been tasked with that responsibility.

NCTCOG Director of Emergency Preparedness Maribel Martinez-Majia says they are pretty steady with where the money is going.

"Those amounts are determined by the organizing committee and the jurisdiction," Martinez-Majia said.

There is a total of $61-million in federal funding that was given to North Texas.

$51.5-million is for security while a separate $10-million allocation is dedicated to enhancing public transportation.

"We know that some of that money will go to the City of Dallas, the City of Fort Worth, City of Arlington, Frisco, Mansfield, DFW Airport, Dallas County, Southern Methodist University, DART, and the City of Irving," Martinez-Majia said.

Houston received $74-million as the other host city in Texas.

The FIFA World Cup gets underway June 11th with both Dallas and Houston hosting their first matches on June 14th.
