More changes coming to the Fort Worth City Council, as District Four Councilman Cary Moon announces...

"I will be filing to run for the Texas House of Representatives District 93," Moon tells KRLD. "This is the seat that (is being) vacated by Matt Krause to run for attorney general."

Under the rules, Moon will be unable to keep his seat on the council as he pursues the District 93 seat.

"Our city charter does require us to forfeit our position if we choose to run for another elected office," says Moon. "I can serve in that role until I'm replaced by (a special) election, which will be in May of 2022."

While that date is after the statewide primaries, Moon would not be able to rescind his resignation should he fail to secure the Republican nomination.

First elected in 2015, Moon is currently the second longest serving member of the Fort Worth City Council, behind Gyna Bivens.

In fact, once Moon's successor is elected and seated, that would leave Bivens and Carlos Flores as the only remaining members of the Fort Worth City Council among those who were on the Council at the beginning of the year.

"It's just been great to serve and to meet people that I would typically not have the opportunity to meet and to be able to help them with local matters that impact their life," says Moon.
