Because of the coronavirus pandemic, there are now 27 Dallas County capital murder suspects out of jail and on home confinement while awaiting trial.

The latest man to be released on an electronic monitor is 28-year old Christopher Gonzalez. He was arrested as a cold case suspect for a capital murder charge from 2014.

Dallas Police arrested the Baytown man a month ago for a triple shooting in Oak Cliff that left two people dead and one critically wounded.

Since March, when the coronavirus struck, the Dallas County jail has been all but emptied of capital murder suspects with 27 allowed out on bond.

The home confinement may be the last taste of life outside of prison since capital murder only carries two possible sentences in Texas, life without parole or the death penalty.
