More Vaccines Coming Soon

A spokesman for the Texas Department of State Health Services says Texas is set to receive just over half a million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine next week. That includes 125 thousand shots originally required to be set aside for the federal long-term care program.

That would be a one time thing, but the state should be getting about 50 thousand more doses this week over last on an ongoing bases. Last week Texas received about 335 thousand shots. "So we continue to push from that regard. We will continue to work to improve how quickly we get it out. We will continue to fight for us getting more vaccine to Texas. I know our providers are whole heartedly dedicated to doing their part."

She isn't satisfied.  "We've done an amazing job but we know we can do better.  That is the reason why we continue to reiterate over and over and over again to all of our providers across the state, use the vaccine as quickly as possible.  We want everyone to run out every single week."

Garcia adds getting the vaccine distributed equitably is a priority.  "We are directing our hubs to make sure they serve diverse and hard hit populations.  We also know that our local partners play a really critical role in this.  They know their communities best and they know how to reach those diverse populations that they have."

More than two million doses have been administered and nearly 1,687,000 people have gotten at least one shot.  Nearly 370 thousand Texans are now fully vaccinated.
