Insurance claims are about to go through the roof following the winter storm as car owners find themselves in wrecks and homeowners deal with broken pipes and damage to roofs.
Rich Johnson with the Insurance Council of Texas has a reminder for those who rent and have renters’ insurance.
“It will cover all your personal items. It will cover area rugs, furniture, electronics,” Johnson said. “All of that is going to be covered with your renter’s policy.”
However, if there is damage to the property, that is up to the landlord to fix.
Regardless of the type of claim, Johnson says it is important to move on it quickly.
“Whether it’s online, if you’re taking those pictures on your phone, open up your insurance company’s app, you just download everything in,” Johnson said. “Get that claim started as soon as possible so you can get in the queue.”
Johnson says while this storm was significant, they do not expect the number of issues following the winter storm that hit the entire state in 2021.
