COLLIN COUNTY (1080 KRLD)- A Navy veteran from Collin County man has become the latest to be snared by the FBI in the January 6th riot at the US Capitol.
According to court filings, Mathew DaSilva, Lavon, is now facing eight charges, including being in the front line of the fight to overrun US Capitol police and get in the building January 6th.
The complaint says a tipster led the FBI to compare pictures of DaSilva at the U.S. Capitol to other photographs, including on his driver’s license. The pictures showed a Navy camouflage jacket and signature yellow scarf that DaSilva typically wore, according to a statement of fact.
The FBI then presented the pictures to a second person who said they knew DaSilva. “Witness-2 said that DASILVA had a full beard and long hair for years prior to January 6, 2021, but that upon his return from Washington, D.C., he shaved his beard, cut his hair, and stopped wearing the black and yellow scarf.” the document said.
Specifically, the criminal complaint accuses DaSilva of Assaulting, Resisting or Impeding Certain Officers; Obstruction of Law Enforcement During Civil Disorder; Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority; Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings; Parading, Demonstrating or Picketing in a Capitol Building.
The records show DaSilva was arrested July 13 and had his first court appearance July 21.
DaSilva becomes the 16th from the Dallas Fort Worth area to face charges from the riot.
