New Fort Worth ISD Superintendent starts today

This is the first day on the job for Dr. Angélica Ramsey. She was officially hired Tuesday night by the Fort Worth ISD to be the new Superintendent after being named the only finalist for the position last month. The previous Superintendent, Dr. Kent Scribner, retired earlier this year.

"I am excited to get started," said Dr. Ramsey. "The work starts by visiting schools and getting conversations started with educators and students to learn about what needs to get done to become an 'A' district."

Several parents spoke to the board before the final vote to hire Dr. Ramsey. Some supported the decision, but there were also some critics.

"As a Board, you seem to be choosing someone you want - not someone who represents the people," one woman said.

Other speakers applauded the decision and praised Dr. Ramsey's previous work as the Superintendent of the Midland ISD.

"Dr. Ramsey has a reputation as a change agent, someone who will keep student improvement and achievement center stage," one man said.

The new Superintendent told board members her first priority would be to visit several Fort Worth ISD schools today.

"That's how we're starting," she said, "to hear from our teachers, to talk to our students."

Dr. Ramsey's contract calls for a base salary of $335,000 per year with an additional car allowance of $1,000 per month. She will also be eligible for an annual performance bonus of up to $25,000 per year.
