The rifle the suspect in the New Orleans terror attack had with him was purchased in Arlington just weeks before the incident, the ATF says.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigators also revealed new information about the explosives used in the improvised explosive devices planted during the attack. Authorities said the materials used to create the devices were readily available in the United States and did not include rare compounds.

The attack, which occurred early New Year's morning, left 14 people dead and dozens injured.

The FBI said Shamsud-Din Jabbar traveled to New Orleans twice before the attack, and recorded video of the French Quarter using smart glasses.
