Monday, a new restaurant opens on the 18th floor of Dallas' Reunion Tower. Crown Block occupies the 17th and 18th floors of Reunion Tower, replacing Wolfgang Puck’s "Five Sixty," which closed in 2020.
Crown Block serves a selection of steaks and seafood, including Prime Beef, Texas Wagyu, and Japanese A5 Wagyu.
Crown Block is a partnership between Elizabeth Blau and Chef Kim Canteenwalla.
"There's so much love and passion in this state for your ingredients, and I think that's really going to show in your glass or on your table," Blau says.
Blau says they traveled to different parts of Texas to find the best sources of food and drinks. Among items on the menu are Heartbrand Akaushi Striploin from Flatonia, Texas and the Rosewood Ranch Bone-In Strip Steak from Ennis, Texas.
At the bar, the signature cocktail is the Midnight Rambler, which is made with Balcones Pot Still Bourbon. The Orange Vesper is made with Lockwood Texas Style Gin.
"We want to take this beyond just your typical expectation of a steakhouse," Blau says. "You certainly have many of those, but I think with this spectacular view and focus on Texas ingredients and regional ingredients, that's our little twist."
In addition to steak and seafood, Blau says Crown Block also has a vegetarian menu. She says options for dessert are also "sure to be photo-worthy finishers."
"Our pastry chef just has an incredible selection of decadent desserts from Creme Brulee doughnuts to peanut butter candy bars, just something for everyone," she says.
Blau says she and Canteenwalla recognized an opportunity at the top of Reunion Tower. She says they can introduce visitors staying at the Hyatt Regency or Omni to Texas cuisine while also giving native Texans a chance to experience food from local sources.
"What's most important to us is, while we know people are going to come here to celebrate some of their most important occasions, we want this to be a place Dallasites call home," Blau says. "I know how proud Dallas is of the tower. The tower really belongs to the City of Dallas and everyone who lives here."
Crown Block opens Monday. The elevator ride to the 18th floor lasts 68 seconds. Crown Block also has an event space on the 17th floor with space for up to 250 people. Details about reservations or the event space are available at https://crownblockdallas.com/.
