After getting a lungful of tear gas, a North Richland Hills man surrendered to police Wednesday -- ending an hours-long SWAT standoff.
The incident began with a domestic assault at the 23-year-old man's home near Jerrell and Bonzer, close to Boulevard 26 and Rufe Snow.
Police were called because an elderly person in the home was hurt and ended up going to the hospital.
That victim and another adult managed to escape but the man inside refused to give it up.
The SWAT team was called in and negotiations continued for hours.
Finally, though, the tear gas was used to encourage him to come outside where he was handcuffed and hauled to the North Richland Hills city jail on a charge of causing injury to an elderly person
