A network of car dealerships in North Texas has expanded its holiday effort to connect with local non-profits. Park Place Dealerships first launched its "Season of Giving" campaign last year, giving $100,000 to 23 charities.
This year, the company says it received more than 400 applications from charities in North Texas. Park Place selected another 23 organizations, giving another $100,000.
Kara Connor, experiential marketing manager at Park Place Dealerships, says Season of Giving was launched to support smaller non-profits that may not draw as much attention.
"They may not receive the funding they need, so we try to make a big impact with smaller groups throughout DFW," she says.
Among organizations selected this year were Seniors' Pet Assistance Network, Amy's Wish with Wings, which provides equine assisted services to kids with special needs, and Black Heart Association, which offers free health screenings and telehealth services to the African American community.
"We feel like we're making a big impact and also connecting our members with organizations to have a more personal relationship," Connor says.
This year, employees at Park Place are also volunteering with non-profits.
"Today, we're doing lap blankets for end of life patients for the fall and winter for Project 4031," Connor says. "This morning, we had a team at Arlington Life Shelter doing a deep clean of their family dorms. Tomorrow, we're doing picnic tables for My Possibilities in Plano."
A committee of people working at Park Place Dealerships chose the non-profits that would receive grants. The company's philanthropic arm, Park Place Cares, says they chose organizations based on four criteria: education, medical, advocacy and the arts.
