On June 21, a total of 312 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized in North Texas. One month later, that figure is approaching 1,000.
As the Delta variant of the coronavirus continues to spread across the state, hospital beds are again filling up.
According to the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council, medical facilities in Trauma Service Area E were caring for 949 COVID patients as of Thursday morning, representing 6.44% of overall bed capacity and 20.12% of adult ICU patients.
More than a third of the area's COVID-19 hospitalizations are in Tarrant County. Dallas County is next, followed by Collin, Denton, Rockwall, Hunt and Grayson County.
Based on current trends, DFW Hospital Council President/CEO Stephen Love said they anticipate hospitalizations will continue to increase. Love spoke with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
