North Texas firefighters are rotating crews in and out of Northern California as stubborn wildfires continue.
Some of the two dozen firefighters from the area will be packing up in the next day and will be replaced by others from Texas.
"We'll still have the Texas force that's out here, we're just going to refresh some of the members who are out here to be able to give some guys a break and have other guys have the opportunity to come out" said Dallas Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Scott Pacot.
Flames had died down for several days, but a new surge of fire began Sunday as hot spots began reappearing due to changing weather conditions. With the new fires, more thick, orange smoke began blanketing the area in Northern California dumping ash on towns miles away.
The team has been at a base camp that is about three hours from the fire line in the northern part of the state. The terrain is steep and rugged with little or no cell phone availability for the crews to communicate with anyone outside of radio range.
22 firefights from across North Texas are part of the local strike team.
