Godley ISD has canceled classes at all of its campuses for the rest of the week because too many students and employees have the flu. Almost 650 students were absent on Tuesday.
The district reports attendance rates were between 70 and 80 percent at all campuses. Dozens of staff members and teachers were also out sick, making it difficult for schools to safely cover classes.
Godley ISD put an announcement on its website and social media platforms that indicated some athletic events and other activities may continue if coaches or sponsors decide that their teams or groups can participate.
District officials are encouraging employees and students to stay home and recover. Classes in Godley ISD will resume on Monday. Until then, employees will use that time to perform a deep cleaning and sanitization of school buildings and school buses.
The district shared it did not decide to close lightly, but the "high number of absences prevents them from safely and effectively covering classes and other duties."
