A North Texas man is heading to prison for decades for trafficking women.
Court records show 34-year-old Phillip Jay Curlett of DeSoto pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking last year and has just been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors say he trafficked several women during a ten-year period and that he would regularly beat them if they didn't make enough money or tried to leave.
Prosecutors say he even forced one victim to use meth to stay awake.
“Human trafficking is one of the most egregious crimes the HSI investigates,” said Homeland Security Investigations Dallas Special Agent in Charge Lester R. Hayes Jr. “HSI’s role is simple; we will find and prosecute those who force victims into this degrading and inhumane lifestyle.”
Homeland Security Investigations worked the case with help from the North Texas Trafficking Task Force.
