Pastor Wayne Walker is CEO of OurCalling. He says this kind of weather can get dangerous fast.

"Last year, we had lots of people with lots of frostbite, lots of people with exposure issues. Especially the elderly," Walker says. "We're really trying to get people indoors."

OurCalling is partnering with the City of Dallas and other nonprofits and churches to provide warm places for people to stay during this cold snap.

He says if you need help, just show up. The warming shelters will be open tonight and tomorrow night.

Residents in the city of Dallas who need relief from the extreme cold are welcome to visit any Park and Recreation or Library facility during normal business hours for temporary relief from the cold. You can get details here.

Other shelters including Union Gospel Mission, Salvation Army and Austin Street may open up additional space as the temperature begins to drop and allow people to stay during the day. Please check with the area shelters for availability.
