A teacher from the Northwest school district, which includes parts of Tarrant, Denton, and Wise Counties, is speaking out after being targetted online for her support of gay students.

The Medlin Middle School teacher is being targeted online by extremists over her sponsorship of the school's gay-straight student alliance.

Ever since then, the teacher has feared for her and her family's safety, even when going out with her husband and leaving her daughter at home. For that reason, KRLD is not naming the teacher.

The entire community is rallying in her support, including the school board. Several speakers at last night's board meeting expressed their gratitude.

The principal at Medlin Middle School says the school is pursuing criminal charges against those involved in the harassment campaign under the state's anti-cyberbullying law.
