The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says a mechanic's mistake is what led to a plane crash in Mesquite two years ago.
On April 23, 2020, a commercial pilot began a flight from DFW International Airport to Muscle Shoals Alabama. The single propeller, nine passenger plane got as far as Mesquite when the engine lost power.
Video showed the plane tried to make it to the Mesquite airport, but was unable to and disappeared behind a bank of trees, sheering off both wings.
Reports say the airplane had undergone repairs in the days leading up to the crash, but the NTSB says a mechanic did not rig cables correctly, causing the engine to shut down.
The pilot had tried to return to DFW Airport, but abandoned that plan and headed for Mesquite. The plane still did not make it.
The 55-year old pilot was the only peron on board when it crashed. He was seriously injured.
