The North Texas Tollway Authority started winter preparation Wednesday in a multi-day operation that will treat all of the roadways under the Tollway Authority.
Michael Rey with the NTTA says they wanted to wait for a round of rain to move out.
"As the rain tapers off, we get out to do brining operations," Rey said. "We are going to brine the entire system"
The brining process that began Wednesday will take two days.
He says the brining treatment is only a preparation phase of what they do.
Once the system moves in and after it moves out they will work to clear it.
"We'll have to put down some solid materials, some salts and various things that cling to the roadway," Rey said. "If we have to, we'll plow it."
Rey cautions that, like previous winter weather events over the past few years in North Texas, the systems are unique events that present different challenges.
A mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow is expected with an arctic front that moves into North Texas Friday evening and lasts through the weekend.
