An upcoming summit in Oak Cliff dedicated to transportation comes at an awkward time where many residents are up in arms over the future of two critical connectors.
The future of the Houston and Jefferson Street viaducts connecting Oak Cliff to Downtown Dallas remains unclear given the new design of the downtown convention center renovation.
A recent proposal would add southbound traffic to the Houston Street viaduct and completely reroute the Jefferson Street viaduct north to Lamar Street where it would end.
The Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce 2026 Transportation Summit does not mention this topic for the upcoming summit at Methodist Dallas Medical Center next Friday.
Residents and some Dallas City Council members though have strongly opposed changing the existing routes that run from Downtown Dallas to Oak Cliff.
The future of the decades-long viaducts came into question after the Dallas City Council approved a change to the new convention center downtown.
That change would no longer allow the Jefferson Street viaduct to run under the building after it becomes Market Street.
