Tarrant County elections officials say it was user error after a Tarrant County man claims a voting machine incorrectly recorded his choice for president.
The voter reported that after casting his ballot, the machine printed the wrong candidate for president. Election officials say the issue was not due to a malfunction.
An investigation revealed that the machine had functioned correctly, and the man had simply made the wrong selection, Tarrant County Elections Administrator Clint Ludwig said.
"This is not uncommon and there's a practice in place called spoiling the ballot to handle this," he said. "The individual notified the lead clerk that they needed to spoil their ballot and he was issued a new ballot and able to vote."
Ludwig emphasized the importance of double-checking printed ballots before submitting them to be counted.
Election officials continue to encourage voters to review their choices before finalizing their ballots to avoid similar misunderstandings.
