Chevron is relocating its headquarters from San Ramon, California, to Houston, Texas. Chairman and CEO Mike Wirth, along with Vice Chairman Mark Nelson, will move to Houston by the end of 2024 to join other senior leaders, enhancing collaboration and engagement with executives, employees, and business partners.
This change comes two weeks after Elon Musk's SpaceX announced that they, too, would move from their headquarters from California to Texas.
The immediate impact on employees in San Ramon will be minimal. Over the next five years, all corporate functions are expected to transition to Houston. However, positions supporting California operations will remain in San Ramon.
Currently, Chevron employs about 7,000 people in the Houston area and around 2,000 in San Ramon. The company operates crude oil fields, technical facilities, two refineries, and supplies over 1,800 retail stations in California.
