Oncor says the severe thunderstorms that ripped through North Texas last month are the worst in the company's history.

The May 28 storm caused 650,000 power outages, and since then storms have continued in DFW, delaying power restoration efforts.

Among the hardest hit areas were North Dallas, East Dallas, and Mesquite. Dallas City Councilwoman Paula Blackmon has called on Oncor to investigate the reasons behind the extended power outages and to evaluate the company’s response efforts.

‘While we appreciate the work done in the aftermath of the storms, our East Dallas community experienced a significant impact to their quality of life during their loss of power," the memorandum reads.

‘We would like to understand what happened and how we can work together to create a resilient community.’

In an interview with our media partner NBC 5 Councilwoman Blackmon says she is requesting further information on Oncor's response to the storms in hopes of preventing similar issues moving forward.

“The intent with this is to look at what we did well, what we can do better, and are there places where we can improve our infrastructure,” said Blackmon in an interview with NBC 5.

“This is in no way saying someone failed and you succeeded. It is truly looking at: What we need to do to work better, not harder.”

“It’s not about pointing blame, it’s really about working smarter,” said Blackmon.

“We have limited resources, there’s going to be more frequencies of these storms, so how do we work together to get us through to the other side?”
