A Plano firefighter is recovering at home after being hurt while helping battle a house fire last night.
Plano fire officials say that just after 7 p.m. firefighters were sent to the two-story home near Preston and Parker. They found the fire very far advanced and flames were already shooting through the roof of the structure.
Fire Commanders deemed it too dangerous to send anyone inside so fire crews poured on the water from the outside. Temperatures were in the low 20s at the time so all of that water ran off and froze, making footing very slippery for the firefighters.
The damage to the home was so extensive that the wing of the building where the garage was located collapsed. Fortunately, the homeowners got out safely.
The firefighter who was hurt was taken to the hospital. After being treated, he was sent home, according to reports.
