One person has been struck and killed by traffic in Oak Cliff early Friday morning.
Police don't know why the victim was on foot on the freeway. The tragedy happened about 3:30 a.m. on the northbound side of I-35E near East 8th Street, about halfway between the Dallas Zoo and the Trinity River.
Police say the unidentified victim was killed at the scene, forcing police to close all north-bound lanes of the highway. Traffic was diverted to the service road although some drivers were using the TexPress lane.
By 6 a.m. the back-up was at least three miles to the Highway 67 merge. But just past 6:30 a.m. the lanes were reopened.
