It's yet another big honor for the woman known as the "Grandmother of Juneteenth."
Coming up on Sunday, Opal Lee will be the Grand Marshal for the GM Financial Parade of Lights in downtown Fort Worth.
The Star-Telegram reports Lee will be joined on the float by her family and by criminal justice reform advocate Dr. Belay Reddick.
Thanks to the longtime efforts of the 95-year-old Lee, Juneteenth became the newest federal holiday back in June.
The Parade of Lights starts at 6:00 p.m. Sunday November 21st.
Reserved seats are available for purchase but they usually sell out quickly. Pro tip: Plan to be in the area no later than 4 p.m. to minimize parking issues. Even better, spend the afternoon shopping and dining at the many downtown restaurants and storefronts to avoid the rush.
