Eight brands of eye drops are being pulled off the shelves at major retailers across the country, according to a Class II recall notice from the Food and Drug Administration, over sterility concerns.
California-based K.C. Pharmaceuticals voluntarily issued the recall, affecting eyedrops sold under the brand names Dry Eye Relief Drops (1,023,096 bottles), Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops (589,848 bottles), Sterile Eye Drops Original Formula (378,144 bottles), Sterile Eye Drops Redness Lubricant (315,144 bottles), Eye Drops Advanced Relief (303,216 bottles), Ultra Lubricating Eye Drops (245,184 bottles), Sterile Eye Drops (182,424 bottles), and Sterile Eye Drops Soothing Tears (74,016 bottles), totaling more than 3.1 million bottles sold at stores including Walgreens, CVS, H-E-B, and others.
The Class II designation by the FDA carries potential risk to users of contaminated products, noting that, "exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences", or that the, "probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."
