It was just before 10 p.m. when Dallas 911 operators got calls about the tragedy of one person struck and killed on southbound I-35E near Royal Lane.
Reports say the victim was already dead when police and paramedics arrived. The driver stopped, as required by law.
The car had front-end damage and a shattered windshield. Officers spoke with the driver but there's nothing to suggest it was anything but an accident.
Investigators aren't saying why the victim was on foot on the freeway.
The south-bound lanes of 35 were closed for hours during the clean-up and investigation.
