Leaks out of the Pentagon suggest the Army is about to purge a "significant number" of Fort Hood officers and enlisted personnel over the recent spate of deaths of soldiers stationed at the sprawling post near Killeen.
More than two dozen troops have died this year from accidents, suicide and homicide. Last year, it was 32 and in 2018 it was 24.
The anonymous leaks say Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy will take administrative action to remove commanders from their jobs.
Observers believe the post commander Lieutenant General Pat While not be punished because, for much of the year, he's been deployed to Iraq.
But his second-in-command Major General Scott Efflandt could face discipline along with a number of others down the chain-of-command.
