The U.S. Department of Defense is warning Scouting America, the Irving-based organization formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America, that it risks losing long-standing military support if it does not implement what the Pentagon calls “core value reforms.”

The warning was posted on social media late Monday by Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell as the department reviewed its partnership, which includes logistical and medical assistance for events such as the National Jamboree in West Virginia months away.

Defense officials cited concerns with the organization’s embrace of diversity, equity and inclusion, including its inclusive membership policies that began in 2013 for LGBTQ youth and expanded to admit girls and rebrand as Scouting America in 2024.

The Pentagon’s statement did not list specific changes but said negotiations were underway and that continued support depended on reforms to align with current Defense Department priorities ahead of the summer jamboree that typically draws thousands of scouts.
