A Plano cheerleading gym and one of its former instructors are among the targets of a $10 million negligence and sexual abuse lawsuit.
The suit names Cheer Athletics, based in Plano, the United States All-Star Federation, and coach Jason McCartney as defendants in a complaint that alleges rampant sexual abuse.
The Frisco Police Department has confirmed it is investigating as a criminal matter.
Hannah and Jessica Gerlacher say from the time they were 15 until the time they graduated at the top-level of national cheerleading, they were groped and abused by McCartney and that their complaints were not investigated. Their attorney, Michelle Simpson Tuegel they are suing not only are seeking monetary punishment "but to also speak out publically and hopefully help other victims whether it be of Jason McCartney or other abusers within the sport of cheerleading to know that they can come forward and report."
McCartney could not be reached for comment. The Federation and the gyms have not responded.
