BURLESON - Police in Burleson are rolling out new body-worn cameras equipped with real-time translation technology designed to help officers communicate with people who speak little or no English.

The department, located about 15 minutes south of Fort Worth, said the devices can translate up to 50 languages during live interactions. Officials say the upgrade is part of broader public safety preparations as North Texas expects an influx of international visitors tied to upcoming World Cup matches scheduled in the Dallas area.

Police say the translation feature allows officers to speak into the device and receive near-instant translated audio, helping reduce misunderstandings during traffic stops, calls for service, and emergency responses. The goal is to improve clarity and transparency in situations where language barriers can complicate communication.

Burleson officers have begun training with the new equipment, and the department says the technology is now being deployed in the field. While there have been no reported incidents prompting the change, officials say the move is proactive as agencies across North Texas prepare for major international events.

The World Cup will bring matches to the Dallas-Fort Worth region, and public safety agencies across the metroplex have been reviewing staffing, technology, and coordination plans ahead of the tournament.
