Police investigating multiple fatal crashes across North Texas from the weekend

Police departments across North Texas are investigating several fatal crashes from over the weekend.

One person died in a Sunday night single-car crash in Denton. Just past 7 p.m. police were called to the crash scene at Meadow and Daugherty, a few blocks from the UNT campus. North Locust, which runs parallel to Meadow, was also closed for the investigation. One person was rushed to the hospital with very serious injuries. Just past 9:00 p.m. that victim died. Police have not said what caused the driver to lose control.


In Irving police are still looking for the driver in a Friday night crash that killed one person in another car. On Friday night, police were on their way to an illegal street take-over. The racers and spectators took off at the sound of sirens. Two cars were speeding North Belt Line when they collided. One car slammed into a tree and one occupant was killed on impact. The other driver bailed out and got away on foot.

Two people died in a weekend crash in McKinney. They were back seat passengers in a car that was rear-ended by a pick-up on Highway 380 at Stonebridge. Officials say the car was slowing down for a yellow light when the pick-up slammed it from behind. The driver of the car and a front seat passenger survived as did the driver of the pick-up. The truck driver was questioned by police but investigators have not said if there will be any charges.

And a man is now behind bars in Dallas, accused of a drunk-driving crash that killed his teenage passenger over the weekend. Early Sunday, the car driven by Gabriel Cantu slammed into another car on Peavy Road near Gross Road in far east Dallas. Cantu was arrested on a count of intoxicated manslaughter plus drug charges. The driver of the other car was hurt but not seriously.
